A Case of Diphenylhydantoin Induced Aplastic Anemia

Abstract
|
|
|
Many drugs in the treatment of disease may induce serious damage to the
hematopoietic system. Especially, anticonvulsant induced aplastic anemia is commonly
reported. But, diphenylhydantoin induced aplastic anemia is rarely reported. Recently, we
encountered a patient with aplastic anemia developed during diphenylhydantoin therapy
for about 1 year. He partially recovered on peripheral blood and bone marrow
examination after oxymetholon, antilymphocyte globulin and high dose steroid therapy.
Therefore, we reported a case of aplastic anemia following administration of
diphenylhydantoin with brief review of literature.
